During several research projects on the suitability of diatomaceous materials of Greece for construction industry applications, a significant deposit with an unusual mineralogical composition was located in Thessaly, central Greece, This diatomaceous material was successfully tested as an industrial absorbent, a lightweight aggregate (LWA), and in lightweight insulation bricks. The trials were conducted at laboratory and semi-industrial scale in Greece, Belgium, France, and the USA.
