China dominates Asia Pacific glass trends

The June 2006 acquisition of UK based world float glass leader Pilkington Plc by Nippon Sheet Glass Co. Ltd is indicative of the rise of this region as a glass manufacturing base for the world. Demand for flat glass is primarily dependent upon construction & automotive industries, both are prone to cycles. The global market for flat glass in 2006 was about 45m. tonnes, Asia accounted for around 37 percent (China and Japan accounting for >70 percent).
