At large in Liaoning

FOLLOWING THE 7~(th) Chinese Industrial Minerals Conference (CIMC 2007), which took place in Dalian, 9-11 October 2007 (for report see IM December '07, p.44), a party of some 30 delegates spent a busy but rewarding day touring some of the key minerals operations of the province. The tour party left Dalian on Thursday night by bus to Yingkou (see map), so that the group was well located to launch into the heart of the mineral producing centre of Liaoning the following morning. Located at Pailou, Haicheng Magnesite Refractory General Factory is one of the largest magnesia enterprises in Liaoning, hosting some 840m. tonnes in reserves of magnesite, with 50 percent grading 46 percent MgO. The company produces 2m. tpa magnesite (figs. 1, 2), 300,000 tpa caustic calcined magnesia (1 6 shaft kilns; fig. 3,4), and 270,000 tpa dead burned magnesia (27 shaft kilns). Refactory products are also manufactured.
