Financial crash hits mineral freight

GOOD NEWS FOR minerals, bad news for freights. The fall-out from the global financial crisis has led to the collapse of the freight market, which will take several years to recover, according to Carl Lee, vice president of strategic planning at Fednav Ltd of Canada(see Freight Market Report, p.72). Speaking at IM's Fluorspar 08 conference in Montreal, Lee said: "The bubble has burst and the downturn will last a decade."
