Vietnam occupies an area of approximately 331,688 square kilometers, stretching from 23°23' N to the 8 deg 2' S and from the 109 deg 28' E to 102 deg 08'W. The winter season, extending from November to April receives enough rainfall and during the monsoon season from May to October, there will be torrential rains. In other words, the annual rainfall is substantial in all the regions and very heavy in certain parts. Nearly 90% of rainfall occurs from May to October. The total rainfall ranges from 120-300 cm. Temperature is generally high in the plains and cool in the mountains and plateaus, ranging from 5°C in December - January to 37°C in April. Seasonal variations are more clearly marked in the north as spring (February to April), summer (Aprilto August) Autumn (September to November) and Winter (December to January).
