NA magazine surveyed its independent retail subscription base to learn that in 2000, collectively, they sold approximately $3.54 billion worth of merchandise, a 9.9 increase over 1999s $3.22 billion. Because of the timing of the survey, respondents reported their actual sales for the first six months of 2000 and predicted sales for the last six months of that year. Those figures totaled $248,751. Actual average sales in 1999 were reported at $226,341. The 9.9 projected increase in 2000 is encouraging considering the conflicting reports across all sectors of retail at the time of the survey.
