摘要

Aims and topics Vibrational spectroscopy is often the first and last method of an analytical chain. Recent developments in optics, lasers, detectors, and nanotechnology have led to a substantial broadening of the spectrum of methods available for many applications in fields ranging from chemistry to materials science to medicine. These developments were recently highlighted at the Seventh International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (ICVAS 7), which was held fromAugust 25th to 30th in Kobe, Japan (Fig. 1). The aims of this conference were to address current directions of research into vibrational spectroscopy, to report recent developments in this field, and to discuss practical applications of vibrational spectroscopy.
