This paper presents a high-level design and prototyping environment for parallel signal processing algorithms using GNU Octave. Octave is (i) a high-level interactive language, primarily intended for numerical computations, (ii) a free computation tool based on GPL, and is (iii) mostly compatible with MATLAB. In this paper, we extend Octave to parallel language, called parallel Octave", and its performance is evaluated on an experimental 16-node PC cluster system. Parallel Octave supports an easy way for the design and implementation of parallel-distributed signal processing algorithms.
