Ozone transfer into potable water was studied in a conventional bubble column, and ozone mass balances have been calculated to determine ozone utilization efficiencies. Liquid and gas flow rates, as well as inlet ozone concentrations in the gas phase were varied. Using these data, it was possible to determine the ozone mass transfer coefficient, ozone transfer efficiency, and ozone consumption. A model of ozone transfer was established, and procedures for calculating the optimum design parameters and operating conditions are proposed.
