Bristol-based Alec French Partnership has designed the new extension to the library at the University of Bath; it won the commission through a limited competition. The brief called for a scheme that would offer the university the potential for a '24-hour study centre', with space for up to 1200 students and staff, double its original capacity. The brief also stressed the need to improve the overall quality of the library environment and its energy performance.
