Experimental observations are presented of the continuous oscillation of a submillimeter laser using gaseous compounds of C, N, and H or D, the relative independence of the output on the particular gases used, and the effect of the addition of water or He. With pure (CN)2no laser action was obtained, but addition of H2O or D2O gave two different sets of laser lines. At present, in the region between 107.71 and 336.83 mgr;, ten laser lines have been obtained with dc excitation.
