Lighting Journal reports on an innovative LED battery-powered portable floodlight designed in the UK, which has raised the standards for lighting excellence worldwide. Five years ago at a military trade show in Paris the lighting industry saw the launch of the world's first LED battery-powered portable floodlight, which had the potential to reduce noise, fumes and tripping hazards on construction sites. The RALS 9430 attracted massive interest with its unique low battery warning system, silent and fume-free operation, low operating temperature and light weight. The energy-efficient Remote Area Lighting System (RALS) ran on a re-chargeable SLA battery with no power cord, yet produced 2000 lumens of clean brilliant light for eight hours at maximum output.
