Fulfill pig herd potential: Tackle poor ventilation and temperature control systems

RECENT STUDIES by BPEX show that poor ventilation and temperature control systems in indoor pig farms are preventing many herds from fulfilling their potential, and the organisation has started a campaign to tackle the problem. Industry consultant, John Chambers, has been asked to provide some pointers for keeping pigs comfortable and healthy throughout the year. Mr Chambers estimates that only around 25-30 per cent of intensive pig farms provide a good environment for their pigs, with a further 50-60 per cent described as 'adequate'. This leaves the remaining units with room for considerable improvement.
