Impostor syndrome, sometimes known as fraud syndrome, is a persistent belief that one's successes are solely due to luck or good circumstances -even deception - and not talent or hard work. Often such feelings are accompanied by the fear of being unmasked as a fraud. Impostor fears can be debilitating, especially for someone who has just stepped into a new role, perhaps as a newly qualified nurse or following a promotion.
