摘要

Alkylation of benzene with ethyl alcohol was carried out over cerium exchanged NaX zeolite in a fixed bed flow reactor.The catalytic activity of the modified zeolite was found to increase with the Increase in cerium content in the crystal lattice.Experiments were carried out to find out a mass transfer resistance free zone by varying different parameters.Kinetic runs were taken in the mass transfer resistance free zone at a constant benzene to ethyl alcohol molar ratio of 3:1 by varying the space-time under isothermal conditions in the reactor.Different models based on Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson reaction mechanism were proposed and a mathematical fit for the best model was found.The model parameters were estimated by nonlinear regression analysis.From the estimated kinetic constant,the activation energy of the reaction was determined to be 56 kJ/mol.
