The 47th annual general meeting of the Indian Cotton Mills Federation, and the first after it was broad-based to form the Confederation of the Indian Textile Industry, was held in Mumbai on September 27. V.K. Ladia, Chairman, told the representatives of the associate members that their cooperation was vital for the effective functioning of CITI as an umbrella organisation of the entire textile and allied industries. Among other things, the abolition of quotas from January 1, 2005 had contributed to the growth of this highly export-oriented industry. Textile exports to the US had increased by 24.3 during the first six month of 2005 over the same period last year, whereas the growth in 2004 was only 14.95. The situation in the EU was also positive.
