Towards the rapid and sound development of China's cotton textile industry, paper presented to the Cottech 2006 Conference, Shanghai, May 22-24. Cotton textile industry, with a long history and solid foundation, is now the major one among all the Chinese textile industries and has gradually become a significant part in the whole textile chain, acting as an important source of raw material for much deep processing such as dyeing and finishing, knitting and garment manufacture. China's cotton industry takes one third of the global cotton consumption, and therefore plays a vital role in the textile industry in China as well as in the whole world.
