In the early sixties, the Dutch government intended to establish more legislation, so the Dutch cosmetic industry needed a strong scientific platform to discuss the issue and formulate an industrial point of view. Two distinguished cosmetic chemists, Dr. Witjens and Dr. Carriere, founded the Society on March 15, 1962. It was open to all scientists with an interest in cosmetic science, so also to dermatologists and pharmacologists. The NVCC join-ed the IFSCC in 1963.
