What makes electronic edge finders (EEFs) tricky to fabricate is the need to electrically insulate the probe from the rest of the machine. If this insulation is too soft, it will compress at touchdown and not spring back. This causes a subsequent error. If it is too hard, it will shatter at touchdown. What is the ideal insulation? None at all!
