Eczema-also known as atopic dermatitis-is characterised by relapsing episodes of skin inflammation and intense itching, resulting in a rash and dry skin lesions that can bleed, ooze and become infected. Eczema has two main pathological elements: impaired skin barrier function and immune dysfunction. The appearance and location of eczema changes as children grow and looks different on different skin tones.
