Evaluation of Highway Traffic Intensity with Different Vehicle Types

Traffic management on highways may be upgraded on the basis of new equipment and more powerful information technologies, such as cloud resources and storage. However, deficiencies are evident in mathematical models of traffic behavior with stochastic speed and lane changes on multilane highways. The proposed model of traffic takes account of several types of vehicles, differing in speed and size. The model parameters may be adjusted on the basis of measurements of the traffic flow from highway-based sensors.
