To drive power electronic semiconductors, a special circult called gate drive is mandatory. This circuit mainly acts as element for galvanic isolation between signal and power electronics as well as for voltage and current amplification. To be as effective as possible the gate drive circuit has to be located as close as possible to the semiconductor switch. Unfortunately this condition often cannot be met.
