This paper proposes Genetic Algorithm (GA) tuned IP controller for Load Frequency Control (LFC) of an interconnected thermal reheat power system with AC-DC tie lines. Here the gains of integral and proportional controllers are tuned by genetic algorithm. The two area reheat thermal interconnected system is disturbed with step load of one percentage and the outcome are equated with conventional Proportional plus Integral (PI) controllers based on peak overshoot and settling time. From the outcome it is perceived that GA tuned IP controller LFC gives superior transient response than the conventional PI controller.
