Your USMA President retired at the end of 2021, after 34 years with the "Satellite Service" of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), but I continue to be associated with Colorado State University's Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA), as an hourly employee doing consulting work. My career at NOAA involved validation of meteorological satellite imagery from new weather satellites as they were launched and prepared for operational use. This involved what was called the "first light" imagery, the first images made available to the public. Once checked out, the imagery and data were then used by the National Weather Service, which was the primary customer for NOAA's Satellite Service.
