Thales is pleased to present the Train Protection and Warning System - Continuous Supervision (TPWS-CS), a new and innovative train centric solution currently in development that will unlock a wide range of benefits for the railway. Previously featured in Modern Railways (November 2021) TPWS-CS is principally a modern supervisory ATP system, created from the fusion of our novel Robust Train Positioning System (RTPS) and our existing TPWS heritage. RTPS provides real-time train speed and position with safety integrity, without the requirement for trackside infrastructure or the need to fit the complex instrumentation required of an EVC while providing a migration path to ETCS L2, delivering safety and performance benefits sooner. TPWS-CS integrates RTPS with the existing TPWS installation, and by implementing Network Rail's Radio Based Limited Supervision (RBLS) specification, can provide an ETCS based ATP function with significantly reduced cost and lead-time. In concept trials, onboard equipment installation was completed in just three shifts.
