Zeolites are often impregnated with a metal by incipient wetness impregnation, which involves adding an impregnation solution containing the metal(s) to a zeolite in a mixer. In a typical plant the resulting wet impregnate is discharged under gravity onto trays and then transferred to a dryer by an operator. This requires the operator to be present near to the wet impregnate which is not ideal because of the risk of the operator becoming sensitized by skin or inhalation contact. This hazard could be avoided if the wet impregnate were transferred directly to the dryer without human intervention. For example, the wet impregnate could be discharged into a hopper then into a screw feeder which transfers it into a dryer.
