It is my pleasure to introduce Dr Kartik Viswanathan, a rising star in cytopathology. Dr Viswanathan completed a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry/biotechnology at Michigan State University. He subsequently completed a doctoral (PhD) program in cancer biology at Stanford University, after which he decided to change careers to medicine. He obtained his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, New York; this was his proudest career accomplishment and the culmination of a 10-year journey to fulfil an American dream that he, coming from an international background, had. Following medical school, Dr Viswanathan was accepted into the anatomic and clinical pathology residency program at Weill Cornell, and he completed his training in 2020. After the pathology residency, he completed a cytopathology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr Viswanathan was an outstanding resident and fellow who received numerous accolades and training awards, including a Distinguished House Staff Award and an American Society of Clinical Pathology Global Health Scholarship in 2019. After completing his cytopathology fellowship in 2021, he was recruited as a head and neck pathology instructor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and less than a year later, he joined the Emory faculty as an assistant professor in head and neck pathology and cytopathology.
