The distribution of the vertical forces exerted by the wheels on a track is a very important parameter for the safe running and operating economy of a railway vehicle. Under static conditions, these vertical forces can be reduced to the weight force only. The importance of knowledge of these forces is also underlined by the recent publication by the CEN of the EN 15654 standards, which specifically regulate the measurement under static and dynamic conditions of the distribution of vertical forces in a rail vehicle. In this article, we would like to describe a measurement solution based on a completely hand-portable system that is quick to use and thus drastically reduces costs and downtime. These features open up innovative maintenance scenarios that reduce bogie maintenance costs and offer conditions for increasing the operational safety of a railway vehicle.
