All rights reserved.A beam is a structural element that predominantly resists loads that are applied laterally to the beam’s axis, causing internal stresses, strains, and deflections. Nowadays, reinforced concrete beams need strengthening, when the existing steel bars in the beam are unsafe or insufficient, or when the loads applied to the beams are increased. The various works of literature contained the study of behaviour of concrete using various types of CFRP with its wrapping positions for strengthening and its flexural strength, displacement and ductility were reviewed. In this paper, the behaviour of reinforced concrete beams using CFRP sheets with different wrapping positions is experimentally investigated under static and cyclic loading. In this experiment, two control and four strengthened beams of size 100*150*1500 mm were tested under four-point bending. In the four strengthened beams two beams were wrapped throughout the length of the bottom face and two were diagonally placed. The behaviour of a normal reinforced concrete beam and a strengthened concrete beam has been observed under static and cyclic loads. The experimental results shows that the strengthening capacities of RC beams retrofitted with CFRP sheet are larger than the conventional beam. The strength gain caused by CFRP sheet in bottom face is 15.36 in static load and 13.77 in cyclic load and the strength gain caused by CFRP sheet in diagonal shape is 3.26 in static load and 14.76 in cyclic load.
