Some of your readers may not like the early aircraft articles (i.e. World War One) but I suspect that many of us do. I found the story in the December issue Knights Of The Sky most interesting. Reading about the issues faced by those early aviators makes one realise how far we have come. I found it interesting to read about pilot experiences with aircraft; good, bad and terrifying. Regarding early aircraft, I was at tech school at Chanute Air Force Base Illinois, US when they hosted a fly-in during the autumn of 1963. Of special interest to me was a replica Fokker Dr.I with a Warner radial engine. The pilot landed it on the ramp, shut down, then jumped out and with some help picked up the tail and rolled the plane back with the others. When the air force ramp officer asked him why he landed there, his reply was: "With this plane you always land and take-off straight into the wind - and the handles under the wing tips are functional!" A fond memory!
