Gabrius uedai sp. nov. is described from Amami-Ohshima, with redescription of the Gabrius nepos Smetana. The genus Gabrius Stephens is a very large genus, of which about 450 species (Newton, 2019) are known from all over the world, 24 species (Shibata et al.,2013 Hayashi, 2021) of which have been recorded from Japan. The genus Gabrius Stephens is dividedinto many species groups (Coiffait, 1974; Smetana, 1995; Schillhammer,1997). It is rather easy to identify the species itself by the structure of the male genitalia, though it is not so easy to determine species-group to which each species belongs. This is probably due to the fact that the species of this genus are very similar externally to each other, and their male genital segments are weakly sclerotized, often nearly membranous in parts, and therefore they are easily deformed.
