Manufacturing is one of the cornerstones of the global economy. But while, on the one hand, industries have changed beyond recognition, on the other, the core principles of manufacturing have stayed largely the same since the Industrial Revolution more than 200 years ago. Thanks in part to the consumption of fossil fuels and the onward production of unsustainable materials, manufacturing has been targeted in recent years for its part in the global climate crisis. Whilst there isn't one single perpetrator, some sectors have faced criticism more than others.
