clascoterone [(8R,95,10R,135,14S,17R)-17-(2-hydroxyacetyl)-10,13-dimethyl-3-oxo-2,6,7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16-decahydro-1H-cyclopenta[ajphenanthren-17-yl] propanoate is represented by the following formula: Clascoterone is a steroid ester and acts as androgen receptor and glucagon receptor antagonist. High concentrations of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) at the hair follicle shorten hair cycle and miniaturize scalp follicles. Clascoterone displaces the androgen hormones from the androgen receptors on the sebaceous gland within the hair follicle. The drug acts by blocking DHT interaction with the specific hair-follicle androgen receptors and reduces the skin's production of prostaglandin D2 which can inhibit hair growth in elevated levels.
