Changing cropping practice

Environment Management Systems (EMS) are widely considered as the way forward for recognising environmental improvement on farms. But unless the right information is fed into them, they are likely to provide little more than a farm environmental checklist. In Western Australia's northern grain belt, the Mingenew-Irwin Group has been an enthusiastic supporter of the EMS concept. It became involved with a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) project in 2000 and followed that with a federally funded pilot program in 2003.
