THE SALES battle for market supremacy between Commodore and Falcon has been nip and tuck over the last few years. First one grabs the ascendancy and then the other. Falcon finished 1995 in front but so far in 1996 the Commodore has held the upper hand. Australian motorists have shown a preference for family cars that are slightly larger than average for a medium-sized car, with either six-cylinder or V8 power and rear wheel drive. That trend is showing no signs of abating. Sales of Commodore and Falcon are gaining in strength against two slightly smaller six-cylinder competitors.
