In 2015, the World Health Organization endorsed a global action plan to tackle antimicrobial resistance, where one of the five objectives was to optimise the use of antimicrobial agents to ensure correct efficacy.1 If antimicrobial resistance continues to rise, it has been estimated that 10 million people will die each year by 2050, making drug-resistant infections the primary cause of death globally.2 Dentists are responsible for . approximately 10% of all antibiotic prescriptions.3 It is therefore imperative that dentists follow guidance and recommendations from the dental antimicrobial stewardship toolkit.
