摘要

The percentage of diabetes mellitus is accumulating globally as a consequence of elevated levels of glucose in the blood. This elevated glucose level in the blood will lead to impairment in the production of insulin. With this study, an attempt has made to explore the correlation between HbAlc and lipid profile of type 2 diabetic patients A total of 569 type 2 diabetic patients (30l males and 268 females) visited King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh were involved in this study. The mean and standard deviation of both male and female subjects were 53.08士 2 l.0 l and 51.84士 19.86 years respectively. The data values of HbAlc, cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were extracted from the database called eSiHi (electronic system for integrated health information) of Kind Saud University Medical City (KSUMC). The patients were classified in to 2 groups based on their HbAlc level. The first group having the HbAlc level 7% (n-528). The correlation of HbAlc and LDL shows positive and statistically significant (R2 =0.099, p0.0l8). The correlation of HbAlc and HDL is not significant (R2 =0.03l, p=0.458) while the parameters TG and Cholesterol highlights a positive correlation (R2 = 0.ll9, p=0.004) and (R2 =0.126, p=0.003) respectively. The study results reveal that the mean value of Cholesterol, TG, HDL and LDL parameters of HbAlc group >7.0 is higher (5.45士2.l3, 4.49士2.96, l.49 士0.52, 3.60士2.00) than the subjects with HbAlc % <7.0 (5.l7士l.85, 3.97士2.7l, l.33 士0.52, 3.35士l.80) and the LDL and Cholesterol shows a statistically significant (P = 0.049) and (P = 0.0l4) respectively HbAlc plays both the role of biomarker of gly- cemic control and also a predictor of lipid profile of type 2 diabetic patients. Diabetic patients with HbAlc percentage greater than 7.0 tend to have reasonable and severe lipid abnormalities and therefore thorough examination is required.
