摘要

This paper describes a taxonomically diverse assemblage of charophytes recovered from the Middle Siwalik strata of Mohand area, Dehradun sub-basin, NW Himalaya. Recovered from a horizon dated similar to 9 Ma, early late Miocene, the collection comprises 13 species belonging to 7 genera: Chara aspera, Chara globularis, Chara rantziene, Chara sp., Hornichara maslovi, Lychnothamnus breviotus, Nitellopsis megarensis, Nitellopsis tectochara merianii, Nitellopsis tectochara haungii, Sphaerochara tewarii, Lychnothamnus barbatus, Lychnothamnus sp. and Lamprothamnium papulosum. Associated fossils include freshwater ostracods, gastropods and fishes. Palaeoecological considerations of the recovered charophyte assemblage suggest a shallow, warm, low energy, semi-permanent to permanent lake or pond.
