NETWORK RAIL welcomed the arrival of a new fleet of wagons to support track maintenance and renewal works at a ceremony at Victoria station in London on 28 June. Altogether, 570 new wagons are to be delivered, manufactured by Greenbrier Europe in Poland and Romania and financed by the Swiss leasing company Wascosa. The fleet comprises a mix of box wagons and container flats, with the flats set to carry modular superstructures supplied by GB Railfreight. These deck elements will carry various track maintenance materials. The wagon fleet comprises: 1. 260 FEA container flats, with the twinsets carrying six TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). Built in Swidnica, Poland, these are standard flats with flexible use opportunities, capable of carrying maritime containers (2x40ft and 2×20ft when in this mode) - indeed, GBRf was using some of the early arrivals on container workings out of Southampton while awaiting the rest of the fleet; 2. 260 shortsided MLA box wagons, allowing space under overhead wires for a digger bucket to dump waste materials for transport away from a work site. Built in Arad, Romania; 3. 50 bulk wagons for ballast. These are standard JNA aggregate wagons. Built in Arad, Romania.
