Evaluating new varieties ad ensuring healthy budwood: New citrus varieties for Australia

The project aims to establish citrus variety evaluation sites in NSW (2), South Australia (1), Queensland (1) and Western Australia (1). The field establishment phase of the project began in early October 2005 with the despatch of trees to trial sitesin WA and Qld. The sites in SA, the Riverina and Sunraysia were planted by the end of October and reworking the varieties onto Valencia trees at the Sunraysia site completed by mid November. The Sunraysia site will generate a larger volume of fruit from reworked trees to allow preliminary market testing of the new varieties.
