Although the Planes of Fame Air Museum's airshow has not taken place for a few years, due to the pandemic, the attraction - based in Chino, California - can still operate its occasional flying days. On December 4,2021, the museum hosted a special event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. As well as a lecture describing that fateful day, the museum featured a flying display from its Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero. Still powered by its original Nakajima Sakae radial engine, the machine is currently one of only four or five authentic, flyable Zero fighters extant. The 1943-built aircraft served on Iwo Jima before going to Saipan in March 1944. It was captured by the US Marine Corps at Aslito airfield on June 18 and was shipped to NAS North Island, California.
