Addressing an Agriculture Victoria webinar in June, Dr Ferguson said there are a range of reasons for using elD and a range of different things that people can get out of it, but the most powerful aspect comes when you see the result of the managementthat elD enables."There's a lot of science that I and other people have done, which you can see in a textbook or someone else's farm, but actually seeing those responses on your own farm is really powerful," he said. Dr Ferguson listed five reasons why people used elD (see box below) but said his passion was around selecting which animals to retain.
