In his second article on the unprecedented three Conference addresses of E J Stewart, Simon Cornwell outlines how, when he was finally able to deliver a full Presidential speech in 1945, Stewart set out a prescient vision for the future of post-war highways lighting. The first post-war Association of Public Lighting Engineers (APLE) conference took place in Glasgow in September 1945, and saw President E J Stewart, Glasgow's inspector of lighting, take to the podium for an unprecedented third time.
