Flinders Street Station Concourse Rehabilitation Works

Melbourne's 100 year old Flinders Street station, popularly known as the 'Taj Mahal,' gets some major remediation in a 13.5M dollars rehabilitation of its concourse structure. This project will increase the strength of the infrastructure that supports the concourse and extend its life by up to 50 years. The Flinders Street Station concourse is the major entry and exit point for some 100,000 rail travellers that use the station every weekday. In 1914 passenger tallies showed an average of 210,273 people used the station on a weekday. That figure jumped to 317,322 people in 1927 and in 1934, Flinders Street at that time was declared the busiest station in the world.
