摘要

November weather was dominated by sustained very cold weather over western Alaska. While most of the state saw below normal temperatures for the month, nearly all areas in western Alaska, from Northwest Arctic Borough to the Alaska Peninsula, had a top-five coldest November. King Salmon, Kodiak, and Cold Bay all reported the lowest average temperature for any November. At King Salmon, the lowest temperature for the month of -28°F on the 28th equaled the lowest temperature of record in November. In contrast, the central and southern Panhandle and a small area in the northeast Interior were a bit milder than normal for the month. Precipitation was below normal over most of the state, and in southwest Alaska it was near record dry. At Bethel, the total precipitation was just 0.07 inch, which is second only to 1969 for driest November. King Salmon also had a top-five driest November. In contrast, precipitation was near to a bit above average in the eastern Interior and most of Southeast. Snowfall was not excessive, except for parts of Prince William Sound and Southeast Alaska. Haines reported 67.1 inches of snow in November and Juneau Airport 31.7 inches, for both locations the highest November snowfall since 2011. The timing of the winter snowpack establishment was highly variable. At Fairbanks, the winter snow-pack was not established until November 2, more than two weeks later than normal, while at Anchorage, the winter snowpack was established November 11, a few days earlier than average.
