As prospectors, we are always interested in detecting areas that have managed to fly under the radar since the old timers pulled out. One particular area off the beaten track that I felt was worth investigating, finally lured me out and one morning I set off alone to take a closer look. Over the years I have explored back roads and tracks from the comfort of a 4WD, gaining access to some interesting and often spectacular country. In most cases the tracks don't provide many concerns, and slipping between 2H and 4H is all that's required to negotiate tight spots. Further, the tracks are usually maintained for local access or as fire trails, and have a hard base.
