It is a great honor to receive the prestigious JSFM RYUMON Award. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the selection committee members and the coauthors of the award-winning papers. The three award winning publications [1-3] deal with the study of the complex fluid-structure interaction problem arising in the presence of a laminar and turbulent flow over an elastic wall. The problem has been studied numerically by means of computationally expensive direct numerical simulations, with the flow inside the fluid region described by the full Navier-Stokes equations, while imposing momentum conservation and incompressibility inside the solid layer. The two sets of equations are then fully coupled.
