Japan’s Environment Ministry is seeking input from ruling lawmakers and other ministries over a proposed carbon tax, according to documents from the ministry Tuesday.1. Ministry plans to propose tax next fiscal year and will weigh feedback before finalizing framework2. Separately, ministry also requested 20 billion yen ($182 million) for supporting local governments’ decarbonization efforts as part of its budget requests for fiscal year beginning April2.1 It also requested 20 billion yen for loans for private sector decarbonization.
