© 2021, Scibulcom Ltd.. All rights reserved.The effect of fluid inertia is one of the main extensions of the classical hydrodynamic theory of lubrication. The paper briefly discusses some of the more significant research works on hydrodynamic lubrication, taking into account the effect of fluid inertia in lubrication of journal bearings. Attention is focused on the key methods applied to solve the differential equations involving the fluid inertia terms. In that aspect, here are considered method of averaged inertia, iterations method, stream function method, and perturbations method. A concise description of each one of the above methods is given and based on the discussions some important conclusions are formulated.
