A trainers'workshop for doctors and nursing officers organizing an Occupational Health Nursing Certificate Course Part I within Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd, is described. The workshop was supervised by an external occupational health nursing consultant, a division medical officer with responsibility for postgraduate medical training, and members of ICI Personnel Department training staff. The aim of the three-day course was to bring together doctors and nursing officers to explain the aims and responsibilities of the training team and provided experience in a variety of teaching methods. The workshop setting allowed the trainers through counselling and role play situations to identify and understand the occupational health training needs of nurses, and also improved communication and cooperation between the trainers.
